San Jose City College hired Mnemonic to develop and produce a new commercial video campaign to promote their newly defined and branded Guided Pathways. These pathways allow students to choose from eight areas of study designed to help students stay on course and transfer in just two years. A combination of 15-second and 30-second commercials were produced. This campaign consists of a combination of :15-second and :30-second videos which intend to authentically connect with high school students and young adults while bringing a fun, youthful, and engaging energy to the campaign.  Students speak to the viewer in an encouraging peer to peer voice while engaging with one another on-screen by tossing a ball, (representative of the Jaguar Spot logo), from scene to scene. Creative Direction began with the client’s Jaguar Spot logo and doodle overlay which were already being used in-market.  Video concept execution took these elements a step further, by adding motion graphics to the logo, expanding the breadth and use of graphic doodles, and bringing the logo to life by introducing a ball which also works as a transition mechanism. We set the fun, youthful, light-hearted tone of this campaign by using the Jaguar Spot as a transition mechanism from scene to scene. This allowed us to strengthen the brand message while our student actors engaged with one another and the viewer all at the same time; inviting the viewer to feel and experience inclusive and supported life on campus at SJCC. Performance was equally as important to portraying balanced and accurate representation throughout the campaign and in each commercial video. We openly cast all theater students to participate and encouraged them to lean into their unique strengths and identities, visually expressing themselves in a way that most comfortable and authentic. We then carefully assigned each student to the appropriate script and scene while on-set. We are proud to have produced a campaign that promotes higher education, encourages self-expression and inclusivity, and has provided real-life students with experience and exposure to the work we do relative to that which they are going to school for.
